4. Artists are responsible for all costs in sending art to & from gallery.
Artists with extensive resumes and lots of exhibiting experience show with the emerging artists. This makes for a well rounded show of works in different media, different styles, and different skill levels. Artists are from this area and from other states. Any sales made through the Gallery support URBAN ART RETREAT overhead costs. The gallery also offers theme shows which feature art by under represented people. Many artists face rejection, lack of interest in their art, ignorance of what “hoops” they must “jump through” in order to make it as an artist, and generally lots less interest in art than in sports. Given all this, the rate of artists dropping out and quitting art is high. The Gallery was formed so that new artists could gain information on what is expected of them as artists, how to find places to exhibit their art, and literally- a place to showcase artists. The gallery understands what new and emerging artists are going through and offers to help them find their way in a supportive environment. What the gallery doesn’t have in size is made up for in the uniqueness of the artwork and the cleverness of how the shows are hung. Periodic art receptions are offered usually on a Saturday from 1-4 p.m. The “regular” gallery hours are Saturdays from 11-4 and by calling 773-542-9126 for an appointment.
